March, once an island surrounded by marshes, grew and prospered as a trading and religious centre as the marshes were drained.  In more recent times the town has thrived as a market, administrative and railway centre.

The area is rich in history dating back to Roman times, including such famous names as Hereward the Wake and King John.

Amongst the many local places to visit are March Museum with its reconstructed Fenland cottage complete with privy (!), St Wendreda's Church noted for its magnificent timber roof, Stonea Camp, Dunhams Wood and Welney Wash and Wildfowl Centre.

Going further afield but within an hour's drive fall Sandringham House, Norfolk Lavender Farm, the African Violet Centre, Kings Lynn, the coastal reaches of The Wash, Spalding, the University City of Cambridge, Ely and its magnificent cathedral, Wisbech - known as the 'Capital of the Fens', Peterborough, Huntingdon and much, much more.

Wimblington's pub, The Anchor, serves food both at lunchtime and in the evenings and is about a 15 minute walk from the site or 2 minutes by car.

Regular bus services to Cambridge and surrounding areas leave from the bus stop at the site entrance so you could even leave your car behind.

We are just over a mile from March where there are various supermarkets as well as take away food and a high street with WH Smiths, Boots etc.

There are also many cycle routes throughout the area if you wish to explore on two wheels. Remember the Fens are famed for being flat.......................!

The area is ideal for walking, fishing, cycling, bird-watching as well as the many interesting tourist attractions. Fenland Fisheries, about 25 minutes drive from the site, has superb fishing and a well stocked shop for keen fishermen.

Or you can simply relax and put your feet up under the enormous Fenland skies!
